A broken window pane demands quick attention — every hour it sits unaddressed means your home or business is exposed to New Orleans’ heat, humidity, and whatever weather rolls through. Star Glass Inc. handles window glass replacement for residential and commercial properties throughout Jefferson Parish and Orleans Parish. We replace glass only — not full window frames — which means faster service and lower cost in the vast majority of cases.
Glass Replacement, Not Full Window Replacement
This distinction matters because it saves you money. If your window frame is intact and in good structural condition, there is no reason to replace it. We remove the damaged glass, clean up the frame, and install new glass cut to fit your exact opening.
We do not install full window frame units. That’s a different trade — a window replacement company handles that. Our expertise is the glass itself, and that focus means we can turn around most residential glass replacements faster and at lower cost than a full window contractor.
Types of Window Glass We Replace
Single-pane glass is the most straightforward replacement. The old glass is removed, the frame is prepped, and new glass cut to size is installed. This is a same-day job in most cases and very common in older New Orleans homes with wood-framed windows.
Double-pane insulated glass units (IGUs) are a more involved replacement. When the seal on a double-pane window fails, you’ll see fogging or condensation between the panes that won’t wipe away. The entire glass unit — both panes bonded together with a spacer — needs to be replaced, not just one pane. Note: our online tool currently supports single-pane glass requests. Please call or text us for double-pane IGU replacements.
Historic and specialty glass — New Orleans has a significant inventory of older homes with unique window configurations. We work with homeowners and contractors to match glass type and thickness to maintain the character of historic properties.

Use our Residential Glass Replacement tool to begin your request. Currently supports single-pane (monolithic) glass — call or text us for double-pane IGU requests.
What to Do Right After a Break
Secure the opening first. Heavy plastic sheeting taped over the interior of the window frame keeps the weather out until we can get there. Remove any remaining loose glass carefully — wear gloves and use tape to pick up small shards from the sill. Then call or text us. For emergency situations we prioritize same-day or next-day service whenever possible.Recent Window Glass Projects
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you replace glass in historic wood-framed windows? Yes. We work with the existing frame and source glass to match the original thickness and type as closely as possible.
Can you replace just one pane in a double-pane window? No — when a double-pane unit fails, both panes need to be replaced as a single unit. The two panes are bonded together and cannot be separated.
How quickly can you respond to a broken window? For urgent situations, we do our best to respond same-day or next-day. Contact us directly to discuss availability.
