A custom-cut mirror β sized to your wall, finished how you want, mounted properly β looks dramatically different than something you grab off a big-box store shelf. The difference isn’t subtle, and the price gap is smaller than most people expect.
Here’s the full guide: sizes, shapes, edges, mounting options, and the questions worth asking before you order.
Sizing: Wall-to-Wall or Statement Piece
Two general approaches.
Wall-to-wall, edge-to-edge. The mirror covers the full width of a wall (or wall section). Most common above bathroom vanities, in gym/dance studios, and behind bars. The look is integrated and architectural β the mirror becomes part of the room.
Statement piece. A specifically sized mirror (often shaped or with a decorative edge) mounted as a focal point. Common above mantels, in entryways, and as design elements in living spaces.
For either approach, we cut to your specific dimensions in 1/16″ increments. Send us a measurement, and we’ll match it.
Shapes Beyond Rectangles
Most custom mirrors are rectangles or squares because most walls are. But we can cut:
Arched-top mirrors (great over vanities)
Circular and oval mirrors (modern minimalist look)
Custom shapes from a template (we can work from a paper template you provide)
Corner-rounded rectangles (softens a hard-edge installation)
If you can draw it or measure it, we can usually cut it.
Edge Profiles
The edge is what separates a custom mirror from a standard one.
Flat polish is the simplest finish β clean, smooth, polished to a clear sheen. Good for modern installations where the mirror sits flush against the wall.
Pencil polish is slightly rounded on the edge corners β softer to the touch and visually softer in the room.
Beveled edge is the classic high-end look. The perimeter of the mirror is ground and polished at an angle (typically 1″ wide), creating a frame-like effect within the mirror itself. Catches light beautifully. Works great in traditional and transitional spaces.
Ogee, ribbed, or specialty edges are also available for unique applications.

Mounting Options
How the mirror attaches matters more than people think.
Clips and J-channel. A small metal channel along the bottom edge plus clips along the top. The most common bathroom vanity mount. Hidden behind the mirror. Easy to remove for cleaning behind it.
French cleat. A two-piece interlocking bracket β one mounted to the wall, one to the back of the mirror. Strong, hidden, allows the mirror to come off the wall cleanly.
Direct adhesive. Mirror mastic applied to the back of the mirror and pressed against the wall. Permanent, but no visible hardware. Used a lot in gyms and dance studios.
Framed. A separate frame around the mirror in wood, metal, or another material. Adds visual depth and lets the mirror tie into other materials in the room.
We handle all four mount types. The choice depends on aesthetics, weight of the mirror, wall structure, and whether you want the mirror to be removable.
Backlit Mirrors
A newer category we install often: LED-backlit mirrors. A frosted strip around the perimeter of the mirror (or behind cutouts in the mirror) is illuminated by built-in LEDs. Common in bathroom vanities for high-end remodels.
We can install pre-fabricated LED mirrors (we order them in), or work with your electrician on custom installations.
Where Custom Mirrors Show Up Most
We see custom mirror orders most often in:
Bathroom vanity remodels β replacing standard medicine cabinets with statement mirrors. Particularly common in Uptown homes where the original 1920s bathrooms get gut renovations.
Home gyms and dance studios β wall-to-wall mirrors for form checks.
Commercial dressing rooms β retail stores wanting better mirrors than what came with the buildout.
Residential closets β full-length mirrors mounted on closet doors or walls. Algiers Point renovations have been a steady source of this lately.
Bars and restaurants β back-bar mirrors and decorative wall mirrors.
If you’ve got a space in mind, send us a photo. We’ll quote it and walk you through the options.
