Cut-to-size glass is exactly what it sounds like — glass fabricated to your exact dimensions for any application. Table tops, shelves, window replacements, cabinet inserts, display cases, sneeze guards, desk surfaces — if you need glass cut to a specific size, Star Glass Inc. can do it. We serve customers throughout New Orleans, Jefferson Parish, and Orleans Parish from our shop in Gretna.
Glass Types We Cut
Tempered glass is the most common request for safety-critical applications — table tops, shelves, doors, and any application where breakage is a concern. It is four to five times stronger than standard glass and shatters into small, blunt pieces when broken rather than sharp shards. Note: tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering, so holes and final dimensions must be specified before fabrication.
Annealed (standard) glass is used for applications where post-cut work is needed, or where tempered glass is not required. Easier to cut and modify, but less impact-resistant.
Laminated glass uses a plastic interlayer bonded between two glass panes. When broken, the pieces stay bonded to the interlayer — similar to a car windshield. Used in applications requiring safety glazing, impact resistance, or security.
Low-iron (ultra-clear) glass has less of a green tint than standard clear glass, producing a more brilliant, neutral appearance. Popular for high-end table tops, mirrors, and display cases.
Edge Finishes
The edge finish you choose affects both the appearance and safety of the finished piece. Polished edges are smooth, clear, and safe to touch — the standard finish for most applications. Beveled edges add a decorative, angled border and are popular for table tops and mirrors where the edge is visible. Flat polished edges are a simple, clean finish without the bevel.
Raw cut edges are sharp and unfinished — not appropriate for exposed edges in any residential or commercial application.

How to Measure
Always use a metal tape measure and measure to the nearest 1/16″. For table tops, measure the surface you want covered and specify whether you want the glass flush with the edge or with a slight overhang. For shelves or cabinet inserts that fit between two walls, measure at the front, middle, and back of the opening — older New Orleans homes especially may have walls that aren’t perfectly parallel — and use the smallest measurement minus 1/8″ for clearance.
For unusual shapes, a cardboard or paper template works well. Trace the shape, bring it to us, and we’ll cut to match.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can tempered glass be cut after it’s been tempered? No. Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after the tempering process. All dimensions and hole locations must be finalized before we temper.
What’s the thinnest glass you can cut? We regularly work with glass as thin as 3/32″ for specific applications. The right thickness depends on the use case.
How quickly can you turn around a cut-to-size order? Most standard orders are ready within a few business days. Contact us for larger or more complex orders.
